Workers’ Compensation Coverage and COVID-19
As of March 17, 2020 we have not received any guidance that would treat COVID-19 any differently than any other exposure. As with any exposure, unless the illness is contracted at work and there is a direct relationship to work exposure, there would be no coverage under Workers’ Compensation, unless we are directed to treat this differently by the Governor or any state regulatory agency. We encourage reporting of these claims and will be tracking them in our system under a specific cause code. Safety National, your excess carrier also offers the following:
Liability Coverage and COVID-19
WMMIC will evaluate each claim on its own merits for determining coverage. We will be tracking any claims submitted with a separate cause code. As you know, the WMMIC liability policy covers bodily injury, which is defined as bodily harm, sickness or disease, caused by an occurrence. In other words, as with evaluating bodily injury claim, there must also be negligence.
